The operation of the Future Pumps is incredibly simple; the solar panel drives the motor which spins a flywheel, which in turn drives a piston.  On the rise the piston sucks water into a chamber and on the fall it pumps water out of the chamber.  Due to the design simplicity Future Pumps have little down time relative alternative pumps.
